BREED NOTES FOR CIRNECO DELL'ETNA

The FCI European dog show was held this year in Celje in Slovenia. The show was held over four days with more than 10,000 dogs entered. The FCI 5th Group was scheduled for Saturday, when fortunately the forecast of fog, rain and cold weather turned out to be more of a more “cirneco friendly” dry and mild day. The Cirneco ring was in a hall tucked away at the back of the show venue, quieter and not as crowded as other halls and not easy to find for anyone wanting to see the breed, but this was to the advantage of the young dogs and puppies entered as it was not too stressful. Disappointing that the entry was only 17 (2 absent) but with dogs representing the Colisto’s and Solovyev kennels in Russia, Dell’Ovo, and Gelso Bianco kennels from Italy, Hadranensis from Italy and the UK, Iosono from Finland and Cy’Era from the USA.. The judge was Antonio di Lorenza from Italy.

The European winner dog and Best of Breed was Hadranensis Remo, bred in the UK and owned by Michelle Farleigh and Jane Moore and the European winner bitch was Mariola’ owned by Majorana Giuseppe owner of the dell’Ovo kennel from Italy. The other cirnechi representing the breed in the afternoon groups ring were both bitches as the Junior European winner bitch Cy’era Noor di Hadranensis bred in the US and owned by Jane Moore and Lucia Prieto was also Best Junior while the Junior European winner dog was Colisto’s Vincenzo owned by Tania Soloha from Rumania and Best puppy was Hadranensis Ara. Judge Di Lorenzo’s choice for best brace was Hadranensis Remo and Hadranensis Fedra who, although not placed, showed themselves off well enough in the BIS ring to be pulled out in the final line up of six. Many thanks to Jane Moore for the news.

Here in UK, Richmond Champ show Imports were judged by Ms J. Startup. Anharbn Pretty In Pink was Best Puppy and Reserve Best Bitch while Best Bitch and Best Import was Anharbn White Wedding. Anharbn White Tiger was Best Dog while Hadranensis Remo was Reserve.

At Darlington the judge was Mr P. Bailey. Best Bitch and Best Import was A. White Wedding while A. White Tiger was Best Dog.

At Driffield, Mr S. Hall judged and awarded A. White Tiger Best Dog, Anharbn In The Pink was Reserve Best Dog, Anharbn Pretty In Pink was Best Puppy. Anharbn White Rose for Mwenga was Reserve Best Bitch and Best Bitch & Best Import was A. White Wedding.

At SWKA, Judge Mr D. Smith gave Best Import Register to A. White Wedding, Reserve and Best puppy to A. Pretty In Pink and A. White Tiger was Best Dog.

On Sunday 10th October, David met up with John Platt at the lure coursing venue where they had a thoroughly enjoyable day with Emma & Ella, the Pharaoh and many other hound breeds. The weather stayed warm and sunny for the dogs without being too hot for coursing. John took Arthur and David took Lexi and Scarlet, the Cirnechi. At one point both Lexi and Arthur lost sight of the lure but soon caught up with it again as it was such a long run. Scarlet had the best run without missing a trick but even at home Scarlet is the best hunter closely followed by Bridie. Typically, always the ladies going after dinner whilst the lads cheer them on.

A fun lure coursing event is scheduled November to round off the year before the weather turns.
